Tacos with BBQ Flavored Tempeh And A Secret Ingredient Guacamole

Healthy eating doesn't have to mean tasteless and flat food.

If you know a little bit about seasoning you can make basic healthy ingredients pop with flavor.

A taco is a fantastic way to pack a lot of great vegetables into your diet in a fun way. Start with fresh onions, ginger, tomatoes, and leafy greens--don't forget avocados! Then grab a can of black or refried beans (check for low sodium and non-gmo) to pile into your taco shell.

For this recipe we also added tempeh! If you're new to tempeh, it might be time to take a look because as a vehicle for sauce it delivers.

Once you have your favorite foods, the wonderful thing about a taco is it's easy to pull each item together to get the combined taste of everything all at once.

What we added to this recipe to make it shine is really what takes these basic tacos and makes them totally delicious and even more nutritious. A quick tip for the beans? We recommend sautéing onion or shallot with a bit of ginger then mixing in the beans of your choice. The ginger makes them extra savory.

Our regular go to salt is Piment d'ville from Terre Botanicals. It sounds fancy, but it's organic salt with red chili flakes. Add a dusting to your beans and veggies.

For your tempeh or meat, sauté, definitely try The OKB BBQ sauce--an all natural, low sodium and low sugar, anchovy free sauce. It's vegan and makes everything, including Bloody Mary's--incredibly good.

While the go to for taco Tuesday for many might be a Tex-Mex seasoning from the grocery store, there's a healthier and more versatile way to get the flavor infusion you're seeking. For that we look to Daddy's Gourmet Arizona made Mexican Seasoning -- use it for more than just taco night. It's great on seafood, meat and veggies.

We turned our guacamole up a notch by adding Daddy's Gourmet Bloody Mary Rim Salt. Sounds crazy, but with a bit of lime in your mashed avocado and a sprinkling of this you'll be amazed and will keep coming back to this.
