A Crowd-Pleasing Raw Vegan Burger Recipe

This is a fun and easy raw vegan burger recipe that can also be baked for drool-worthy results.

At one point, across the span of a year, I went on a mission to find the best veggie burger. Having eaten many beef burgers--including some of the best--I knew what I was looking for. From New York to Arizona to California, I wanted to find the top vegan burger.

The results varied, but one of the best burgers I had was a raw burger. It wasn't greasy and tasteless like many of the cooked veggie burgers--or even beef burgers--I had tried, Instead it was fresh, savory and repeatable.

The veggie burger is not everyone's favorite, so if you're cooking up a meal for a crowd, it's important to get it right. This vegan burger recipe has been tested and tried and pleases every time. The cool thing is, when you cook it, it tastes like something familiar. Watch the full video.

Raw Vegan Burger Recipe

TIP: Before you go to bed, soak the lentils by pouring 1/2 cup into a glass container and immersing in water to soften them for pureeing!)

  • 1 and a 1/2 large beets (golden or red)
  • 1/4 a cup of black lentils (soaked overnight they expand to one cups)

Raw Vegan Burger Seasoning

  • 1 tsp oregano (fresh is even better)
  • 1/4 cup of hemp seeds
  • 2 tsp grape seed oil
  • 1 tbsp Daddy's Gourmet Marinara
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 Garlic clove
  • 2 tbsp shallot or onion
  • 1/4 cup parsley
  • 1 tsp maple sugar from Purinton Maple
  • For a more savory burger, add a tablespoon of Lesedi Farm Mango Hot Sauce.
  • In the video, we added a dash of roasted organic sesame oil

Soak 1/2 cup of black lentils overnight. Then drain and let dry for 1/2 hour. Puree the beets and press out as much liquid as possible (drink it, it's good!).

For the seasoning, add everything to a blender, I used a small Cuisinart. Blend until the mixture is fine.

Combine the lentils and beets in a bowl, then add the seasoning and mix well. You're done! Serve on a cabbage leaf or wrapped in chard. Top with a dressing like Lesedi Farm Pumpkin Seed Dressing.
