1.  Prospect Park - Brooklyn

Prospect Park in Brooklyn was designed in the late 1800s by the same team that created Central Park in Manhattan. During the American Revolution it was the site of the Battle of Long Island. It's an expansive park with the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, a huge lake, and views of the surrounding neighborhood.

2. Washington Square Park - Manhattan (Greenwich Village)

Washington Square Park is an lively and wide open space with plenty of benches and often entertainment to relax in Greenwich Village. Designed around a massive arch, the park is the center of the neighborhood and also borders the New York University campus. 

The area was used as a local military training ground in the early days of Manhattan. In the 1960s, it was the center of the burgeoning arts and music scene of the city. Musicians like Ramblin' Jack and Bob Dylan had jam sessions in the Park.

4. McCarren Park - Brooklyn (Williamsburg)

McCarren park in the Williamsburg - Greenpoint neighborhoods of Brooklyn is a large open space for relaxing, sports and working out. Named after a New York state senator, the park is spacious and filled with activity, especially as the days begin to warm up.
